have been arrested for drug-dealing

and possession.

Brookline, Massachusetts, Louis Pisciotta,

19, of Yonkers, New York and Conner Rasmussen, 19, of West Tisbury, Massachusetts face a variety of charges including possession of marijuana, criminal attempt to sell marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

If an Orthodox Jewish transsexual desires to transition, which will set him on a course of taking hormones and finally having SRS [Sex Reassignment Surgery], is this permitted per halakha? Are there any differences if this is MtF (male to female) or FtM (female to male) transitioning? What prohibitions, if any, does this course of action violate? Does pikuach nefesh [danger of life] play a role in determining the halakha? And assuming that someone goes forward with this surgery, rightly or wrongly, under halakha, is this person seen as being the sex which he was born, or the one he presents as and physically resembles? This is aside from the question of how Orthodox Jews ought to treat such a person on a whole.

I'm confused.

If I would need a doctor to perform a life-altering procedure, I would choose the person with the most experience possible, whose walls were plastered with certificates for everything and anything (I wouldn't care if they were awards for a pie eating contest, just as long as they show that this doctor's got commitment).

I received an notice from Student Financial Services telling me I would need to select a new lender for my Federal Stafford Loan. My original lender - along with 136 other institutions - had stopped offering the loans. A couple months later, a friend at another school updated her Facebook status to say she "thinks student loan companies can suck it.
